Well, hello there
Hello all!
This is Hung with the first OverGem devlog!
Who am I?
I'm an indie developer living in London, UK. Sadly, I am not doing games development full-time (yet), but that isn't stopping me!
What is OverGem
OverGem is a bit more interesting than I am. OverGem is a Couch Competitive Brawler for 2–4 players where you knock other players flying like a pinball with visually stunning attacks! Much in the vein of legendary indies like Towerfall and Stick Fight: The Game.
How OverGem came to be
OverGem started as a not-so-serious side project I agreed to work on with a few other people. It initially was going to be an adventure platfomer, set in a post-apocalyptic world (I did not manifest that idea). Unfortunately, the others have dropped out. I, however, felt dissatisfied with ... well a few things actually. I was not doing games development full-time, something I thought I would be doing by now. I didn't have any games on my portfolio that I felt was really good. And, yeah, people dropped out and I was salty.
So, I decided to properly scope and change the original idea, the only thing that was left from the old idea was that its platformer mechanic. I also started to take it very seriously (or as much as a side project can be)
The game has been in the works for 4 months, made primarily by yours truly (programmer, artist/animator, designer).
The Plan
OverGem will be a small game, currently planning on release to have only 1 game mode, 4 characters and 5 levels. The dev log reflects this by also being quite tiny!
Now that I've introduced myself and told you how OverGem came about, and where its currently headed, I guess I should explain what the twist is in OverGem; how does it play differently. Well, see for yourself from the video!
